Er... that was just a lottery, right?

There are a few short film funds out there but they are not always what you might want: like excessive submission periods (to rake in more money without increasing the fund); or perhaps they do not even request a script (a good way to lower costs but not a good way to select a film).

Our ethos is to put any profits back into the filmmaking fund, so there is nothing for us to gain by not running the fund solely for the benefit of the filmmakers. We are essentially filmmakers who felt too many funds were not meritocratic and/or were somewhat scammy. More about us.

The bias for drama scripts and diverse talent (fueled in part by festivals) in short film funding - to the point of excluding genre films and talented filmmakers - has been a barrier to many. Although we have nothing against drama and diversity we are not biased towards them. Talented filmmakers may face barriers for all sorts of reasons, regardless of their skin colour. Read More.

We also provide feedback. When there's no feedback, you can be left with the suspicion that your treatment or script was not even read. Then there's nothing worse than feedback that suggests the reader did not understand the submission, skimmed through it or is just not very competent.

Although we can only give brief feedback, we concentrate on the strengths, perceived weaknesses, and also mention if there's any reasons we think moving onto another idea might be better in the long run (such as a previous film that is too similar, or practicalities that make filming prohibitively expensive).
